Teak and Mahogany are hard-wood timber originally from Burma and Malaay archipelago. Though Teak and Mahogany are not endemic Sri Lankan timber, these are grown in Sri lanka over the centuries in plantations as naturalized hard-wood timber for the manufacture of furniture as well as in the ship-building and house-building industries.

Teak or Tectona Grandis – to give its botanical name – is a tall, deciduous timber in the verbena family – verbenaceae. Teak (Tectona Grandis) is native to Indian Sub-Continent and Malay Archipelago. Usually a Teak tree grows to a height of approximately 100ft (30 m) or more.
